Non-attachment

To know what is non-attachment, it's easier for the mind to understand or know what is attachment.

If there is a personal and group identity towards certain names and forms to be identifying as 'I' or 'us', if there is judgment, expectation and discrimination towards everyone and everything based on the existing thinking, belief/disbelief, ideas, values and practice in the mind, based on the different qualities, names and forms that all and everything have or possess, then that is attachment.

If the mind will be pleased or displeased, satisfied or dissatisfied, and comforted or disturbed by something that it perceives or experiences in the present moment, not to say, something that it perceived or experienced in the past, then that is due to there is attachment towards the names and forms or experiences that the mind perceives(d) or experiences(d).

If the mind is being determined by the presence and absence of something that it likes and dislikes, agrees and disagrees with, or desires and doesn't desire, to feel good, happy, positive, accomplished, worthy, confident, proud and meaningful, or not, then that is due to there is attachment towards the likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements, desires and don't desires of the mind.

If the mind depends on something that it comes or doesn't come in contact with, that it experiences or doesn't experience, that it has or doesn't have, that it possesses or doesn't possess, that it can or cannot do and achieve, in order to feel good, happy, positive, accomplished, worthy, confident, proud and meaningful, or not, then that is due to there is attachment towards all kinds of names and forms that gives rise to identification and the desire of craving and aversion.

If the mind is not at ease, or not peaceful, due to certain thinking or thoughts activities in the mind, of certain disturbing thoughts, or imaginations towards the future, or memories of the past experiences, then that is due to there is attachment towards the selfless impermanent modification of the mind, of selfless impermanent thinking or thoughts activities, wild imaginations, and past memories.

If the mind is being determined by the selfless impermanent condition/ability/disability/limitation of the physical body, or the selfless impermanent capability and states of the mind, or the impermanent good or bad condition and situation in its life existence, or the impermanent ties and relationships, social interactions and activities, and worldly affairs, contributions and accomplishments, to be peaceful and feel happy and meaningful, or not, then that is due to there is attachment towards all that.

If the mind would be pleased and comforted, or annoyed and disturbed by the presence and absence of specific food, or drink, or fragrance, or sound, or word, or sight, or smell, or activity, or movement, or object, and etc, where there is craving or aversion towards certain names and forms, then that is also due to attachment.

If there is fear and worry, hurt and disturb, defensiveness and offensiveness, anger and hatred, jealousy and ill-will, dissatisfaction and disappointment, grief and sorrow, self-blaming or blaming others, the notion of being intimidated and victimized, the sense of belonging, the sense of success and failure, the sense of low or high self-esteem and self-worth, the sense of pride or shame, the sense of guilt or regret, the sense of superiority or inferiority, the sense of meaningfulness and meaninglessness, the sense of rightfulness and wrongfulness, the sense of goodness and badness, the sense of positiveness and negativeness, the sense of aloneness and togetherness, the sense of loneliness, the urge of need to be in control, and etc, then that is due to there is attachment towards something, or towards certain quality of names and forms.

All that are the by-products of ignorance, the idea of 'I', egoism, impurities, and restlessness.

Letting go attachment, and be free from attachment, regardless of whether it's physical attachment, or mental attachment, or emotional attachment, or spiritual attachment, or identity attachment, or material attachment, or worldly ties, connection, friendship and relationship attachment, or ancestry and family background attachment, or educational attachment, or knowledge attachment, or achievement attachment, or enjoyment attachment, and etc, is the fundamental practice of yoga.

Peace is there as it is, upon the absence of attachment, upon the absence of ignorance, the idea of 'I', egoism, impurities, and restlessness.

Not attaching towards the qualities of names and forms, any particular sight, smell, taste, sound, sensation, feeling, or atmosphere; all kinds of duality; all kinds of pleasant or unpleasant experiences; likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements, desires and don't desires, comfort and discomfort; the selfless impermanent life existence; the world of selfless impermanent names and forms; the selfless impermanent condition/limitation/ability/disability/appearance of the physical body; the selfless impermanent function/modification/thoughts activities/states/ability/disability of the mind; the worldly way of thinking, belief/disbelief, ideas, values and practices, including the teachings and practice of yoga; the worldly self-identity and self-image or group identity and group image; all kinds of family ties and relationships and friendships; the teachers or the students; all kinds of accomplishments and non-accomplishments, contributions and non-contributions; all kinds of actions and the fruit of actions; the yoga practice and the fruit of the yoga practice; the duties and responsibilities; the accumulated knowledge, learning, experiences and memories; whatever the mind perceives or experiences in the present moment now, not to say, the past or the future; all kinds of selfless impermanent changes, and so on.
